Lucknow Swachhata Abhiyan’s technological advancements in Waste management
Lucknow, 28th August 2024: In the heart of India’s most populous state, a revolution is underway. Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, is undergoing a digital transformation that is reshaping waste management forever. Lucknow Swachhata Abhiyan’s (LSA) integrated waste management approach ensures a seamless and efficient waste management system, encompassing primary and secondary waste collection, waste transportation and logistics, waste processing and disposal from its newly established command and control centre. This holistic integration minimises environmental impact, making Lucknow a role model for sustainable waste management.
The dedicated command and control centre monitors the vehicles’ routes in real time and ensures timely action in case of any issues with garbage collection. RFID readers have also been installed at all access points to track vehicle movements, supported by GPS technology. This tracking system is also capable of monitoring staff presence.
The command and control centre also has a citizen grievance addressal(CGA) system in place and receives public complaints through the 24X7 Toll-free IVRS number 1800-1234-999. To strengthen accountability, LSA has also launched a website and mobile application dedicated to addressing complaints and concerns. Through this application, citizens can raise complaints and check the status of their complaints for further corrective action.
Additionally, the control and command centre gathers and analyzes data on vehicle movements, staff attendance, asset management, and citizens’ grievances, all aimed to enhance resource planning. It also monitors key performance indicators (KPI) and generates MIS reports, enabling proactive optimization of operational efficiency
